August with the Great Wola Dance Party at Warsaw Breweries
August with the Great Wola Dance Party at Warsaw Breweries

The Great Wola Dance Party is a new recurring event that will become a permanent part of the summer festival calendar at Warsaw Breweries. This year's outdoor dance celebrations, accompanied by good music, will take place on Saturday evenings on August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 in the Central Garden, at Grzybowska 60 Street. Admission is free.

The tradition of Warsaw dance parties – a return to the roots

The Great Wola Dance Party at Warsaw Breweries is a nod to the rich tradition of dancing events that dates back to the pre-war era, when balls and dances were organized in hotels, theaters, clubs, and restaurants. After the war, dance gatherings moved to new venues, adopting a more everyday character. Today, this tradition is being revived in a new form – urban, local dance parties that offer an opportunity to meet neighbors, enjoy shared fun, and foster community, with music that connects generations: from retro hits to contemporary chart-toppers.

August evenings full of dance and music

This is exactly how the meetings of the Great Wola Dance Party will be — every Saturday in August, you will have the opportunity to dance to different genres of music.  On August 2, between 7:30 PM and 9:00 PM, the Brassers band will perform, creating music inspired by techno and house styles. The ten-member group combines the atmosphere of a brass band with electronics and jazz music. During the breaks, DJ Vlodecky will play, and at 10:30 PM, the party with a DJ will move to the Leżakownia square. On August 9, the Great Wola Dance Party will take on the character of Argentine tango with the concert “Piazzola. Show me your tango.” Izabela Kopeć, performing with a musical trio, will play works by the renowned composer and creator of the tango nuevo trend, Astor Piazzolla, with lyrics from famous Argentine poets. On August 16, the Viva Flamenco band will perform, showcasing one of the most popular genres of ethnic music from Andalusia. The challenging dance of flamenco will be performed by Anna Mendak. On August 23, the event will feature the Polish-Caribbean duo Shandy & Eva, who represent a fusion of cultures, filled with dance rhythms and tropical sounds. The vocalists will perform original songs in Afro-Caribbean style, as well as covers of traditional compositions from Central America and well-known Polish songs arranged with a spirit from Curaçao and surrounding areas.  The August edition of the Great Wola Dance Party will end on August 30 with Justyna Jary and the Alegancka Kapela. They will perform hits from neighborhoods, salons, and cabarets in an alegancka (elegant) style. This will be a tribute to the city’s musical tradition.

Each song is a separate story — dramatic, passionate, usually with a good dose of humor. Stylish arrangements of old and new tangos, waltzes, and polkas will be played, including “To ostatnia niedziela,” “Miecio Trąbka,” and “Apaszem Stasiek był.”

- Today, returning to this beautiful tradition of dance parties, Warsaw Breweries open their doors to everyone who wants to feel the true atmosphere of shared fun — regardless of age or dancing skills. The Great Wola Dance Party is an excellent way to meet neighbors, get energized with good music, and for a moment, immerse yourself in a vibrant world where dance unites people and fills the city with energy — says Milena Nawrat, spokesperson of Warsaw Breweries.
