CHARRETTE WORKSHOPS organized by Faculty of Architecture of Poznań University of Technology follow the example of planning workshops used widely in well-developed democratic countries. Term „charrette” was used by the end
of XIX century in Paris Academy of Fine Arts and defined small carts used by students to gather drawings at examinations. It became very popular in urbanistic circles, because it properly expressed intensity of planning workshops, necessity of keeping deadlines and obtaining the best possible results.
Charrette workshops serve as a method of replacing the top decision making procedure with so-called basic approach. The main aim of Charrette is co-operation of all those people who are directly concerned with the project, that is local authorities and communities, investors, land owners.
Workshops last usually from a few to several days, during this time participants have opportunity to get to know and understand needs of all interested parties and may elaborate proper project’s parameters so as to promote the general good and not unilateral solutions.
During workshops organized by Faculty of Architecture of Poznań University of Technology, students of various faculties (architecture and urbanism, town-planning, spatial economy) are going to try to work out a common model scheme of city urban areas’ revitalization, taking into consideration all components which often have different place
in the hierarchy at various faculties.

BALANCED DEVELOPMENT – economic doctrine assuming, that "at present civilization level it is possible to obtain balanced development, that is such development in which needs of the present generation may be satisfied without decreasing chances of future generations for satisfaction their needs." [according to so-called Brudtland report, WECD from 1987]. This report points out to the fact that civilization has reached a welfare level possible to retain under condition of appropriate administration. The model of such economy assumes proper and knowingly formed relations between growth and economic development, care for nature (not only natural environment but also artificial – created by man), and also human health.
As balanced development one should understand an aspiration to retain in development procedures specified proportions concerning economic, social, environmental (spatial) and cultural growth.
