In an opinion poll which was carried out by TNS Polska Kraków residents unequivocally supported the idea of replacing the building of a hotel which has been closed for two years with Nowa Cracovia. The design of the new facility, which has been developed by a team of Kraków-based architects under the management of Witold Cęckiewicz – the designer of the former hotel, was also approved by the vast majority. Three quarters of the city residents are interested in the fate of investment plans concerning the future of the Cracovia hotel.
According to the results of the opinion poll which was carried out by TNS Polska (former TNS OBOP) 65% of Kraków residents believe that the former Cracovia building, which has been there since 1960"s, should be demolished and a new facility should be built at the site. Every fourth respondent (25%) was against the idea and every tenth (10%) answered that they were indifferent about the fate of the former hotel or had no opinion about it.
Compared to the idea of replacing the old facility with a new one, the design of Nowa Cracovia, which the investor presented to the city resident at the beginning of June, got even more support. The design which has been developed by architects working under the management of Prof. Cęckiewicz was liked by 66% of Kraków residents. The visualizations presented by Echo Investment, which is planning the construction of Nowa Cracovia, were not approved of by every third respondent (30%).
Residents of the city could also choose the type of business and functions which could be offered in Nowa Cracovia. One of the most popular options among the respondents was a multifunctional department store offering additional functions such as a cinema, restaurant, flower shop, gym, fitness club or art gallery. This offer of Nowa Cracovia was supported by 66 % residents. Every fourth respondent (24%) indicated other possibilities such as: culture, sport, a hotel, a car park or an office building. 6% of the respondents found it difficult to make any choice or they did not answer the question. Kraków residents clearly supported the multifunctional department store idea (two thirds voted for) even though they could also choose a traditional shopping mall and a hypermarket (4% support).
Kraków residents also expressed their opinion clearly when answering the question concerning the future of the dilapidated facility in the Błonie district. As many as three quarters of them (75%) confirmed that they were interested in the investment plans concerning the development of the former Cracovia hotel site.
The pollsters also asked them about the frequency of using shopping malls, 67% of Kraków residents go to shopping malls at least once a week. Nine out of ten confirmed (89%) that they were there at least once a month. Only 3% of the respondents answered that they did not use such facilities at all.
The opinion poll of TNS Polska was carried out according to the CATI method in June 2013 on a sample of 500 adult residents of Kraków.
